Sightseeing in Kaunas includes a lot of attractions like a charming Old Town, the celebrated painter M.K. ��iurlionis Museum and the Devils Museum. * Hill of Crosses and Via Hansa routes: The history of one of the largest cities in Lithuania - ��iauliai - dates back to the Battle of Sun (Saul��) in 1236 when Samogitians defeated the Germanic knights of the Livonian Order. Sightseeing in ��iauliai is usually combined with a visit to the Hill of Crosses where more than 50.000 crosses made from all possible material cover the Hill. In 1993 Pope John Paul II held a mass at the Hill, which is one of the most unforgettable sites in Lithuania. ��iauliai is located right on the old "Via Hanseatica" road between Koenigsberg and Riga. There are a lot of efforts made to reconstruct this route as an interesting historical experience for tourists. * Klaip��da: During sightseeing in Klaip��da, the third largest city of Lithuania and a seaport, you will enjoy a walk in the Old Town containing Fachwerk houses and admire a view of Theater Square as well Annichen von Tharau's Statue, an Old Neo-Gothic Post Office or you will visit the Marine Museum, Aquarium and Dolphinarium. * Palanga: Palanga, Lithuania's summer capital is a place where you can hide in the shadows of its Botanical Gardens, 110 hectares of the 19th century masterpiece by the world-famous French landscape architect Edouard Andr��. There will be an excursion to the Amber Museum and a visit to the amber workshops of the celebrated artist Antanas Mon��is Museum who created unusual sculptures in Paris. * Kur��i�� Nerija: Kur��i�� Nerija (The Curonian Spit) is undoubtedly the most valuable protected area in Lithuania. In 2001 Kur��i�� Nerija was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is a narrow and long strip of sand (98 km) flanked by the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. The Curonian Spit is made of sand brought by water currents and blown by the wind. The cultural heritage is unique and it includes these authentic regional immovable objects: fishermen's ethnographic homesteads, old villas from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the settlements, cultural layers of ancient villages buried by sand, the old cemetery in Nida, Evangelical Lutheran churches and buildings of traditional wooden architecture. The park boasts Fisherman's ethnographic homestead, a galley - museum of amber, Hill of Witches and Thomas Mann's cultural centre in Nida. Close to Juodkrant��, bird lovers can observe the life of the grey heron and the great cormorant, the nesting place of which is the largest in Lithuania. * Rock Museum and Orvydas' House ("Nonsense Museum"): An exposition of the open-air Rock Museum in Mos��dis consists of every kind of rocks you can find in Lithuania (about 103 kinds). In the old mill you will see different charts and a piece of information about glaciers that once covered the territory of Lithuania. Vilius Orvydas' homestead leaves an unforgettable, almost mystical impression on visitors. It is a weird ensemble of stone sculptures - large rocks, household utensils, rusted Russian tanks, wooden icons and a lot of more. Only an artist's imagination could create something from the seemingly meaningless chaos.
