During the civil war of 1912, the hotel was declared neutral zone and politicians and important foreigners stayed saved and protected. During the 1920s some important public persons stayed as well, such the case of Sir Charles August Lindberg, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, and stayed several times at the hotel.
