Arlington National Cemetery/Arlington House
The impressive national burial group comprises 612 acres, many of which belonged to the estate of Robert E. Lee, whose family mansion still stands on the property. Those interred here include thousands of military veterans, the crew of the Challenger space shuttle and John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy Gravesites: John F. Kennedy's grave -- a somber granite platform marked by an eternal flame and encircled by low walls bearing quotations from his speeches -- lies next to the grave of his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and near the tomb of his brother Robert. Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: An unidentified soldier from World Wars I and II, Korea and Vietnam are interred here and guarded around the clock by an honor guard which changes on the half hour. Georgetown
