Things to Do in Cocoa Beach, Florida
An absolute must establishment to experience is the Ron Jon Surf shop. Do not leave Cocoa
Beach without stopping and it's not just a "buying" expedition. The flashy art deco
building catches the eye and pulls you in to an out-of-this-world adventure. Ron Jon's is
advertised as "One of a Kind", and it is a most unique shop. In 1963 the store contained
3,000 square feet, today you need a road map to find the shoe department. Stairs,
landings, fountains, foliage and of course beach equipment are scattered
throughout the maze. Ron Jon also rents beach paraphernalia.
Cocoa Beach Pier Extends 800 Feet into the Atlantic Ocean
The Cocoa Beach Pier extends 800 feet into the Atlantic Ocean. An 850 foot promenade leads
to the beach with an observation deck overlooking the water. There is excellent fishing,
surfing and swimming in the area. Airboats tours are available through the Lone Cabbage
Fish Camp. The cruises will take you through the inland marshes to view exotic flora and
fauna. The Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is off the beaten path and a great area for canoeing or
a great meal. Feast on catfish, turtle or alligator at this quaint wooden lodge. For some
cultural entertainment The Surfside Players is a nonprofit community theater group
bringing affordable live theater to the area since 1958. Right now you can catch their
production of Camelot.
Cocoa Beach Shopping
S.F. Travis Company was established in 1885 ten years before Cocoa Beach was a town. It's
a 35,000 square foot hardware store where you can buy a single nail, bolt or screw. This
legendary shop has an authentic historical atmosphere. Annie's Toy Chest has an impressive
collection of old fashion wooden trains sets and dolls. Wine imported from Australia and
South Africa dominate space at The Gourmet Experience. They also have a nice selection of
California wine and gourmet food. The SunRay T-Shirts Shop manufactures specialty shirts
for the Kennedy Space Center. Cocoa Village located on the mainland has over 50 shops,
restaurants and boutiques along the brick walkways and cobblestone patios. The area covers
about 15 city blocks with restored lowrise buildings dating back to the turn of the
century. The Black Tulip is a hot spot for locals and travelers. They serve local seafood
and the "catch of the day".
Dining in Cocoa Beach
Coconuts on the Beach has tables inside and outside for your dining pleasure.
Alma's Seafood & Italian Restaurant boasts a wine cellar with 200 vintages. Dine in a
greenhouse filled with orchids and trees reaching to the ceiling at The Mango Tree.
Desperate travelers dine at south of the border style, Desperadoes. Relax inside or opt
for a patio location. Travel back to the 50's at Herbie K's Diner sparkling with glass and
neon lights. The black and white floor tiles compliment the tabletop jukeboxes and dancing
servers.
If you wish to take the formal route try Carlyle's a restaurant with distinction. The
tapestry covered upholstered hand carved wooden chairs add elegance to the airy
atmosphere. Bernard's Surf is where many of the locals dine. It has been serving great
seafood since
1940.
